Show Me Month ends this weekend in college football with Virginia Tech finding itself on the field at Bobby Dodd Stadium in a 17-10 win at Georgia Tech. What amazed me is that since divisional play began in the ACC it’s either been the Hokies or the Yellowjackets winning the storied Coastal Division. One league’s Coastal is another’s legends…I guess.

Hokie Highlights– Three takeaways…shutting the door on third down (GT converted just 2-10 on the night)…and the Bahama Breeze (Demitri Knowles) brings it to the tune of 5 catches for 67 yards. Logan Thomas completes 76% of his passes and rumbles for 76 yards on 14 carries (we account for the 2 sacks where he lost 18 yards in a separate stat-column)…directly being responsible for both VT touchdowns. Hokie Humblings– NO running game outside of Thomas, as the freshman tandem of Trey Edmunds and Chris Mangus combine for -1 yard on 8 carries…10 penalties for 69 yards far from ideal…and can they wear the same helmet two games in a row? We’ve gone from fall foliage to limestone cowboy in less than a week. Next: October 5th vs North Carolina.

Alma Mater Update– the Orange have the weekend off after crushing Tulane…setting up a showdown with #3 Clemson. The Tigers were somewhat sluggish last week at North Carolina State. The school’s rep recently has been they’ve underperformed as heavy favorites…and one hopes Clemson saves that midseason spitup for October 5th.

Maryland has the week off to prepare for #8 Florida State. The Terps have never won in Tallahassee… while the Seminoles visit Boston College Saturday.

Virginia at Pitt– the Cavaliers face an offense that put 58 points on the board against Duke (the Panthers allowed 55, making one think they had a shot clock violation or two). While coach Mike London’s team ranks 11th in the ACC defensively, the Cavs lead the league in defensive passing efficiency. Virginia needs to be able to run against a Panther defense that’s had trouble on the ground this fall…and minimize the mistakes of David Watford (6 interceptions in 3 games). Cavaliers come up short, 24-20.

Navy tops Western Kentucky, Georgetown slips to Princeton, Howard falls to NC A&T, Richmond loses to Maine, Towson gets by Stonybrook, Old Dominion beats Albany.

Last Night: 0-1.
Overall: 21-4…big weekend needed to wrap up Show Me Month in style.
