Halloween weekend gives people the excuse to dress really bad…or simply pretend to be something they’re not.  From “Presidential Facemasks” to “Slutty {insert something non-slutty here}” to “Obscure outfit from a TV character that nobody remembers”… the possibilities are endless. I prefer going as “James K. Polk”, chatting up with “Slutty Pandemic Worker in a Hazmat Suit” and dressing up as “Jake Cutter from Tales of the Gold Monkey”.

College football teams often masquerade for months but by week nine you know what sort of team you are and there’s no reason to try to fake out people.  Virginia Tech can’t stop people when it matters, and no amount of BEAMERBALL! is going to change that.  Virginia isn’t just its usually middling self– but a bad team of the cellar-dwelling capacity.  And Maryland is just not going to have a healthy quarterback anytime soon.

Alma Mater Update– major swing game for the Orange this evening in Tampa… as SU tries to reach .500 with a game at South Florida.  And let the record show Tampa is definitely not in the south of the sunshine state… maybe this initial confusion is what keeps teams on their heels at Raymond James Stadium.

Maryland at Boston College– the Terrapins tangle with a bad BC team… the Eagles’ lone win coming against Maine in week two.  The Eagle offense was red hot early (scoring 30+ points in 4 of their first 5 games ) but has cooled off in averaging 12 points the last two games.  All while the BC defense has melted (117th against the run) in allowing at least 34 points in its last four losses.  It’s against this team that Maryland faces not with it’s backup plan at quarterback… but the backup to the backup to the backup (add in one more backup if you still account for ex-Terp Danny O’Brien).  Can Caleb Rowe (2-2 for 50 yds and 2-10 rushing last week) translate last week’s two minute drill to 60 minutes of excellence?  If he gets hurt… the backup options are a converted tight end, a reserve linebacker and play by play announcer Johnny Holliday (he still has eligibility and can run an 18.4 forty).  Terps triumph, 16-12.

Navy tops East Carolina, Howard edges South Carolina State, Georgetown loses at Lafayette,  James Madison beats Georgia State, William & Mary beats Maine, Towson slips to Villanova.

Last Week: 7-1.

Overall: 45-19.
